Terakeet Applies Technical Skills and Web Savvy to
Help Beverage Industry Improve the Bottom Line
The owner of a large scale beverage distributor had a brainstorm when he thought of applying flow meter technology, traditionally used to measure other liquids, to the beverage industry. The idea was to accurately measure the amount of draft beer being poured to help bar owners better track sales and manage inventory more efficiently. Terakeet was involved at the ground level and acted as technical lead on the entire project. Responsibilities included building the underlying technology, implementing a middleware platform, building a scalable Blade server system, designing firmware and filing 20 patent claims for the project. The resulting flow meter system was completed and installed in over 100 locations in less than one year. The system features a web interface so the resulting data can be analyzed to help bar owners track beer consumption over time, as well as additional metrics. The flow meter does not affect the consumer experience, however, the system helps bar owners save thousands of dollars through reduced theft, better data for marketing purposes and improved inventory management.
Powerful Database Helps Company Successfully
Position Itself as Market Leader
Terakeet worked with a real estate information company to build a powerful database to house property information. The resulting engine was then licensed to and co-branded to other real estate firms. The system allows for endless ways to search 22,000 retail properties and 50,000 businesses in 135 neighborhoods or retail trade zones in the New York, New Jersey and Connecticut metropolitan area. The system includes information pertinent to the sale and lease of commercial real estate and provides extensive visual and comparative information on individual properties, their tenants and the markets or trade areas in which these properties are situated. Each market has been surveyed to capture pertinent retail properties within geographic borders established by retail activity or opportunity. The net effect provides users with a "macro" to "micro" view on which to base acquisition decisions or eliminate deals. The system dramatically speeds up the overall deal process, reduces costs and enhances revenue streams for participating firms. The database system has helped position the company as a leading provider of retail real estate information services within the tri-state New York metro area.
